I had a houseful of teenagers, 20 somethings, and dogs this weekend! Since the two legged have been at college I have been running a “zone defense” here with the four legged and it has been a fail. I am easily outnumbered 3 to 1 and Rufus does not make life easy. Earlier this week I turned my back for just a second and he took an entire chicken breast off of the counter and ate it before I could even cut it up. This weekend we could get back to man to man defense! I can’t tell you what it is like to be able to finish a project while Rufus is howling and know that I don’t have to stop as one of the other two legged will easily grab him! I cooked countless meals and our local takeout spot was thrilled to hear everyone was home!
It was a quick 48 hour visit, but I feel rejuvenated for at least the moment and apparently so does Riley! Our little senior citizen has been in puppy mode since the two legged were here. Last night he had all of his favorite toys out and played for hours. His spirit even got Rufus up off the couch to play with a few toys! The family room looked like a toy store this morning and he was quite proud of the mess. As I cleaned up he took toys and put them where he felt they should go…the good toys “live” on the couch you know!
