Rufus just found out that October is Pit Bull Awareness Month. I am pretty sure we celebrated last year too, but he wants to remind everyone how awesome his breed his. Some of his best friends also fall into the “bully” category including his next door neighbor, his cousin, and his brother from another mother across town!
Pit Bulls are a tough breed, but not for the reasons you see on the News. They are giant babies that need a lot of attention. Rufus is a stage 5 clinger. Even as I write this blog he is next to me in my office. To be more precise he is sleeping with his head on my desk chair so that I can’t move without him knowing.
They don’t bark…they whine. They don’t bite…they hold onto you. They don’t charge you…they knock you over with excitement to kiss your face. Are there pit bulls that fit the stereotype on the news? Of course, but we all know you can’t judge everyone because of one bad apple! They are a very smart breed and they want to please you. They understand right from wrong. When they don’t listen they absolutely know what they are doing and choose to do it anyhow. Their attitude can be trying, but when that wiggle butt hops up to give you a big kiss it is hard to stay mad.
Pit Bulls are not for everyone. They need a lot of attention and activity, but if you have it in your heart and you are a patient person pit bulls make excellent pets. Just be careful because they will steal your heart, your couch, your bed, and your dinner plate! And then they will give you the look and you just can’t help, but love them!
