Never Felt Safer

Dogs Bark for a Reason.  I know it is annoying to those who don’t have dogs, but there is always a reason for the noise.  Rufus “knows” that he is not supposed to bark before 9am or after 9pm.  I tell him “the babies are sleeping.”  Even during the day I don’t let Rufus bark for more than 5 to 6 minutes because the sound will drive you insane and he does have a tendency to bark at leaves…

Rufus goes to bed at 9pm and usually doesn’t get up until I force him out of bed the next morning.  Last night at around 1am he got up and had to get outside fast.  I figured he probably ate something that he wasn’t supposed to.  Riley has been known to share goodies that are not “Rufus approved.”

As I let Rufus out the door he went berserk.  I knew something was wrong immediately.  When I tried to go out on the porch to get him he wouldn’t let me out the door.  He was blocking the door with his body and howling like a madman.  Within seconds police had swarmed the cul de sac.  Once the police arrived Rufus barked sharply at the cul de sac, and then turned around.  He scratched at the door, walked through the kitchen, jumped back into bed and pulled the covers over his head as if nothing had happened.  His job is to protect this house and he was on point last night.

I really don’t know what was going on down the street, but I have never felt safer…
