150 Days, But Who’s Counting…

We Made it 150 Days and Everyone is Still Alive!!  The three of them can usually be found curled up on the couch or lined up in the dining room window keeping an eye on the street.  I will mention this again…3 Dogs is not Easy, but it is Fun!  My house looks like a bomb went off and someone always needs something.  It is very loud here.  Apparently God gave me two hands because you are only supposed to have two dogs…someone should have mentioned that sooner…

We have celebrated birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and mini-milestones like not humping our sister or letting Uncle Eddie in the house!  Rufus is still my Everest, but he has made a LOT of progress in 5 months.  He can ride in the truck without howling the entire time.  He does not steal food from Riley.  He properly greets guests.  Rufus still has a few manners to work on, but he is trying.  He is a very literal dog so when you say “protect the house” you need to be clear that you mean “protect from strangers” or he will hold everyone hostage…

Bailey is a genius.  She picks things up so fast.  She is a lover and will spend the entire day giving kisses.  Bailey loves to walk so I sneak her out for extra walks when I can.  She can easily go 2 to 3 miles whereas the boys are more “strollers.” Bailey is still working on not hating the mailman, but other than that she has adapted to indoor life and is looking forward to playing in the snow and heading to the park to chase squirrels!  She has come to realize that this is her home and she is loving it!

Riley has realized that the Big Dogs live here fulltime and I am not 100% sure that he is happy with sharing me.  He loves to have the Big Dogs to follow around and he is always playing with one of them, but he likes to have my attention or he stomps his feet on the floor.  I am taking time each day to play with just him, but some days he gives me a look like “why did we do this?”  He is a good Big Brother and when something is new to Bailey and Rufus he shows them it is okay.  I have to keep an eye on him while eating because he will share food with Rufus that Rufus is not allowed to have.  The boys bonded immediately so they stick together which can be double trouble for me! I am always outnumbered.

As the Holidays approach I encourage you to head to the shelter and give an animal a home for Christmas.  It is not easy.  It is not cheap.  It is a full time responsibility, but it makes a world of difference to that animal.
