Beach Porch

One of the reasons I was drawn to this house was the kitchen opening to the covered porch and deck. Prior to the 4 legged I planted flowers and lined their pots along the railing. I love to sit on the porch and enjoy the flowers. When the breeze blows it reminds me of being at the beach. Those days are gone…The herb garden lasted about six minutes before basil and rosemary were hanging from dog collars and pots of flowers were upended. I have learned with this crew that you adjust the house to work around them, certainly not the other way around!

My “dream porch” has been transformed several times in the last 90 days to keep both visitors and the 4 legged safe. By day two Miss Bailey learned that she could easily join you in the front yard by hopping the gate. That Friday night was spent trekking through the local home improvement store trying to find something to attach to the porch. Sitting on the porch this evening I am staring at bamboo trellis attached with zip ties and it doesn’t remind me of beach…a Thailand prison perhaps, but not a beach!

Uncle Eddie stopped by and thought it might be time to remove the bamboo. I looked at him with a look of pure crazy and his reply was classic. “Don’t you think the dogs would realize by now that they shouldn’t jump the gate?” Seriously? The good news…he doesn’t own dogs.
